Is there another world that exists just beyond our perception? For thousands of years people have been fascinated by the supernatural, and in Victorian times mystical women captivated audiences with seances, palm reading, fortune telling, and mediumship.

My work reaches out to the other world, weaving words into the fabric of the collage. My practice uses many layers to explore the supernatural through pattern, print, and reoccurring motifs. I use handwritten and typed ephemera from my collection of family paperwork dating back to 1891. These papers help me connect with the past and trace the life lines of my own family history. Like women of the time I use my intuition to develop deep and complex works that are best closely observed to discover esoteric details.

Originally women who dabbled in mediumship and fortune telling were trailblazers and rebels. These supernatural practices offered women of the time a rare opportunity to earn their own money and these women were often also influential in their communities.
